British police arrest and question Lilia Fenech
British police have arrested Lilia Fenech, the Maltese wife of German Peter Wallner, who has been accused with the murder of his former wife Melanie after her badly decomposed remains were found dumped inside a wheelie bin in Surrey.
Mr Wallner, 33, had also been charged some days ago with preventing Mrs Wallner's lawful and decent burial.
Sources said the police have now also arrested and questioned Mrs Fenech but they have not accused her of being involved in the murder.
Mr Wallner had voluntarily gone to the UK when he heard that the Surrey police were looking for him. He was arrested the minute he landed at Gatwick Airport.
The British police had launched a manhunt for Mr Wallner and Mrs Fenech, 23, after they found the badly-decomposed body of a woman in the bin outside their former residence in Hamilton Avenue, Cobham, on Saturday. The body was identified as Mrs Wallner's.
Ms Fenech and her father, Martin, denied that she or Mr Wallner were involved in the murder.
Mr Wallner and Ms Fenech had left Cobham and drove across the English Channel to Malta. The Surrey police had appealed for information about the couple and their van, which was tracked down in San Ġwann.
British police said they did not know when Mrs Wallner died and appealed for information.

OK, Ok, Nella. I was only teasing. But as Mr Farrugia was saying, this is a very odd case. So odd, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wouldn't have used it in his Sherlock Holmes novels. It's not credible and poses more weird questions than it answers any. One only hopes the Maltese girl is soon completely unhooked from such a strange story.

The Police in many countries are not beyond fitting people up. I suggest that a book by John Grisham be read, it tells the story of how 2 innocent men served 11 years in prison, whist the guilty mans evidence was believed over others, every male but him was finger printed & checked out , the police & prosecutors wanetd to find the innocent men guilty, the Police certainly in U.S.A. can certainly be very stupid & corrupt, In the case of the men in states they were not even given an apology by those responslible for the error. Luckily DNA cleared them, the guilty police officials cost the state millions of dollars compensation , but were not sacked, they lied rather than admit that they had made mistakes. Even the judge was wrong breaking the rules set down to prevent mistakes. The DA, forced ther eal guilty man to perjure himself, to save face. The book is called "The Wrong Man" it is frightening , one man was nearly put to death, the officials got away with it. it has also happened in the U.K. So do not judge too soon.

If the British police do not know when Mrs. Wallner died, do they know how, and who allegedly killed her, and why? Did the police ever look for Mrs. Wallner during the past 3 years?
Is the Waste Management system so automated in Surrey that dead people can be dumped in trucks without anybody noticing? Is Mr. Wallner so stupid to dump his former wife in a dustbin in front of his own home, and assume to get away with it? Apparently, in Surrey they do not get any energy blackouts, so freezers have no problems.
As a student I was taught that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle depicted the British police as rather dull in order to make Sherlock Holmes shine. I assume that over the past 100 years the British police have improved a lot given the appropriate training and all the technologies available.
Something does not seem to add up, and I am no Sherlock Holmes. Let us hope that the British police get all the information they need in their investigations to solve this crime in a convincing manner.

Sorry Frans, I meant we leave the wheelie bins in front of our house in the UK.....
not with a body, obviously!!!!!!!!
It is thought that Peter Wallner contacted his in- laws to say that Melanie died 3 years ago, though nothing is said about how he told them she died, or indeed where she was buried, so imagine their shock after 3 yrs of grieving!... Perhaps he committed bigamy, who knows... however, the locals ( neighbours on either side of 'the house') state that they were not married. does the last statement matter really? she was his partner, possibly in crime, and possibly not!!

Excuse me, but since the victim's death was not reported, and there was no divorce, then can somebody please explain to me how Ms Fenech is being described as the "wife"? Is this just a simple mistake, or possibly just dear daddy not accepting that his little pumpkin was, ahem, "living in sin". Not really important, since everybody makes their choice, but why hide it? Btw, here's a little heads up, presuming that surrey police will investigate in the fullest: There is such a thing as guilt by omission; ie, even if a person was not there at the commission of the crime, knowledge of the crime, and the lack of reporting that knowledge, are condidered just as serious. Maybe there is a very slight possibilty that Ms Fenech really was completely in the dark, but then again, maybe daddy should prepare himself for the unpalateable truth. Whi knows. I'm sure we'll find out.

"he disposed of the body in 1 of the two wheelie bins and left it in front of the house, as we all do. In the UK ." So that's what you all do in the UK. Interesting, very interesting. I hope other Maltese won't be attracted to the idea.

According to Surrey News and the locals ( I too live in Cobham), Mr.Wallner was not divorced from Melanie, but in his mind, he was ( melanie was dead) She was kept in a freezer for the last 3 years, and so when Peter Wallner and Lilia (Fenech) left the house, he disposed of the body in 1 of the two wheelie bins and left it in front of the house, as we all do. In the UK - we have two wheelie bins, one for cardboard/paper/plastic and one for garbage, and an additonal green sacks for grass cuttings. Obviously, as the body especially dead is heavy, he put her in the wheelie bin and put the rest of the garbage on top!! The most talked question in Cobham is '' wasn't Lilia curious to check out why the freezer was taped shut?''.......... and........ the general reply was ' I would'. .....
wouldn't you?..........

Does anyone know if Mr Wallner was divorced from Melanie Wallner who is now being described as either his "ex-wife" or "former wife"? Either this hasn't been reported or I have missed it. Thanks.
