Malta champion Alex Borg has been drawn to play world no.3 Shaun Murphy when the draw for the Sangsom 6 Red World Grand Prix 2009 was made earlier this week.

This tournament will be played in Bangkok, Thailand, between July 7 and 12. Forty-eight players from different countries will be taking part.

Borg has qualified to play in Bangkok after coming through a qualifying tournament which was played in St Petersburg, Russia in March.

Among the players in the entry list are five world champions including current holder John Higgins.

The others are Murphy, Mark Williams, Ken Doherty and Peter Ebdon. The field also includes last year's winner Ricky Walden, James Wattana and the popular Jimmy White.

Eight groups

The players were divided into eight groups with the top four qualifying for the last 32 knock-out stage.

Borg is in Group B together with Murphy (England), Aditya Mehta (India), James Wattana (Thailand), Nigel Bond (England) and Akar Soe Yin (Myanmar).

Borg's first matches will be against Akar Soe Yin and Bond, both on July 7. Matches in the group stages will be over best-of-nine frames.
