I refer to a letter entitled Snail Express Mail (June 5) by David Aquilina of Watford, Hertfordshire, UK.
We would like to inform the correspondent and readers of The Times that all mail destined to UK that is posted before 7 a.m. between Monday and Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Maltese Islands is collected, processed and dispatched to UK invariably on the same day.
The mail is then loaded on early morning flights arriving at Gatwick airport same day wherein it is taken over by Royal Mail. It is also of interest to the correspondent and to the readers to note that there is a continuous quality of service measurement being undertaken by an independent international consultant.
Maltapost's quality of service result for this financial year to date stands at 98 per cent D+1. This means that mail posted in Malta and addressed to UK is loaded on the UK flight and handed over to Royal Mail on the next day of posting 98 per cent of the time.
The Royal Mail's Annual Customer Quality of Service Report published last May 29 indicates that only 93 per cent of the First Class mail posted arrived in time to the addressee in UK. Maltapost adheres to its responsibilities and obligations to deliver mail as speedily as possible, to ensure the best possible quality of service to all our clients. We trust this will clarify the matter.
