A diver was airlifted to hospital early this afternoon after having been hit by a boat while swimming off l-Ahrax in Mellieha.

The incident happened at about Noon. The police said the diver, a 26-year-old man from Zurrieq, called for help from a nearby dinghy whose occupant in turn raised the alarm. The diver was ferried to hospital on an AFM Alouette helicopter. He was suffering grievous but not life threatening foot injuries.

It was the second such incident in a few weeks, the other having taken place in Gozo.
