The French Anti-Doping Agency will use a new test during next month's Tour de France in an effort to catch a previously undetectable banned substance, the AFLD said.

Asked if riders could be surprised in the same way they were with new anti-doping tests during last year's Tour, AFLD president Pierre Bordry told Reuters: "Yes. I clearly answer yes."

The International Cycling Union (UCI) have again allowed French anti-doping authorities to keep riders' samples taken during the three-week long race so they can be retroactively tested, Bordry added.

The Tour de France starts in Monaco on July 4.
