Eurostat reports that Malta managed an increase of 1.8 per cent in its employment levels in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter of 2008. In the same breath, NSO reports a reduction of 3.3 per cent in the country's real GDP. It all means that the country's productivity was down by 5.1 per cent. And hence also our competitiveness.
