Lifeguards rescue two teenagers
Two foreign girls were yesterday rescued by lifeguards in Golden Bay after finding themselves in difficulty in the water. A spokesman for the Malta Tourism Authority said the lifeguards spotted the two teenagers in trouble and rushed to their aid.
The girls, one Turkish and the other French, were suffering from slight shock but did not need any medical assistance.
The lifeguard service was installed just days ago and will be maintained until the end of summer.

A public "Thank you" to the lifeguards and to their sponsors. Golden Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha are both notorious for dangerous under-currents, especially in North-West weather.

WELL DONE ONCE AGAIN TO THE SOCJETA' NAZZJONALI TAS-SALVATAGG MALTA. WELL DONE TO ALL THE TEAM, FROM THE DIRECTOR TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS INVOLVED AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST TO SUCCESSFUL LIFE-GUARDS CREW WHO PATROL THE BEACHES, AND ENSURE THE SAFETY OF BATHERS. NOW IT'S UP TO THE BATHERS NOT TO BE A HAZARD BOTH TO THEMSELVES AND TO THE LIFE GUARDS. IF A RED FLAG IS HOISTED - PLEASE DO NOT VENTURE IN THE WATER AS IT IS DANGEROUS. IT'S SHEER EDUCATION AND ALSO RESPECT TOWARDS THE LIFE-GUARDS THEMSELVES.
