Embassy in Tel Aviv inaugurated
A Maltese Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel was inaugurated today in a building shared with Cyrpus.
The embassy was inaugurated by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg, a day after he opened a representative office in Ramallah on the West Bank.
The embassy in Tel Aviv is headed by Ambassador Abraham Borg.
In a speech Dr Borg emphasised the need for progress in Maltese-Israeli relations and that this embassy will serve as tool for this goal.
"Israel has a lot to contribute especially on economic issues; there is a lot of potential in terms of business opportunities, especially as a result of Malta's EU membership," Dr Borg said. He highlighted tourism, IT, and renewable energy as areas of cooperation.
Dr Borg earlier today had meetings with President Shimon Peres and Deputy Prime Minister Danny Meridor.

Recently, courtesy of the actions of Germany’s Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany has aggressively stepped up its diplomacy in the Middle East.
Vatican and German diplomatic moves in Israel are both linked to a common end: possession of the Old City of Jerusalem and most of the eastern half of the city.
The Jews are the pawns in this grand game of international diplomacy. The Palestinians are the grunts on the ground, eager to help divide Jerusalem and annihilate the State of Israel in the process.
The Vatican already has a significant presence in Jerusalem. Under Israeli law, Rome has legal jurisdiction over, and free access to, its holy sites, including both its institutions and assets in Jerusalem. The consolidation of these arrangements came in a bilateral agreement termed “The Fundamental Agreement Between the Holy See and the State of Israel,” which the Israeli government signed with the Vatican on Dec. 30, 1993. The terms of this agreement, composed in secret, were subsequently legislated by the Israeli parliament, the Knesset.

Having an Embassy is a step forward. However, no upgrade with Israel should take place unless Israel mollify the Middle East and stop acting like rogue state and must first abide with UN resolution and go back to 1967 borders, accept two states solutions, second, ending occupation of both Lebanon and Syria, third and foremost stop trespassing Gaza and beleaguered Gazans.
If the EU( Malta) continues to upgrade its relations with Israel despite the latter's illegal occupation of the territory of several countries, and acting with Israel as if nothing has happened (The latest Gaza conflict-which claimed over 1,300 Palestinian lives) send wrong signals across the already flammable region, yet gives us 'influence' in shaping Israeli policy is a complete nonsense.

You are right.
Jews peoples know their history very well. The lived among none Arabs and none Muslims, and they got Holocausted by the latter.
The no hostile Arabs, Muslim and Jew relation is the longest yet least discussed after 1948. (why?- the answer is (the Zionist)-Here we must distinguish between the Jews and Zionists, the latter is a racist movement that eventually created what is known today as Israel.

The biblical Abraham was the father of Ishmael and of Isaac. The former is symbolically acknowledged to be the father of the Arab nation, and the latter that of the Jewish nation. In fact, some Libyan friends of mine have often described Jews as being their cousins through Abraham. So what better name for such a key post, if the name is relevant that is?

I seriously hope that the Ambassador was chosen on the basis of his experience and skills...and not on his name!!! "Abraham" as ambassador in Israel................
