Trading activity for the final session of the week resulted in a further decline of the local equity index as it shed half a per cent to close at the 3035 level. Activity in the equity market was spread over an aggregate of 23 deals in six different listings.

Bank of Valletta was the session's most liquid equity as investors swapped a total of 16,909 shares over six deals for a market consideration of €44,846. The financial services company lost a negligible one tenth of a cent during the day to close practically unchanged at €2.65.

HSBC Bank Malta was the day's worst performer as the equity shed 5c or 1.9 per cent to end the session at €2.55. The bank was nevertheless the day's most actively traded equity as investors struck eight deals for a market value of €17,149.

Both FIMBank and Lombard Bank Malta ended the session in the red as they lost 1c of a dollar and 2c to close at $1.27 and €2.58 respectively. Trading activity in the dollar denominated equity was very low and spread over a single deal while two investors swapped a total of 6,700 Lombard Bank shares.

Malta International Airport headed the list of gainers during the session as the equity increased by 10c or five per cent on fresh buying activity to end the day at €2.10. Investors in the airport operator transacted a total of 4,400 shares over two deals.

Go shares edged marginally higher as the equity rose by a mere 0c1 to terminate at €1.75. The quadruple play communications' company struck a total of 5 deals for a monetary value of €11,719. The company announced that Forgendo Ltd (the joint venture company between Go and Emirates International Telecommunications) has acquired a further 300,000 shares in Forthnet, for a total consideration of €627,720. In the fixed interest sector of the market, activity was spread over nine government stocks and six corporate bonds. The worst performer in the government securities was the 5% MGS 2021 which shed 89 ticks over two deals to close at €100.88.

Trading activity at the Malta Stock Exchange resulted in a negative outcome, as the index lost 1.66 per cent to close at 3035 points.

Go was the week's only gainer albeit increasing by a marginal 0.57 per cent, to terminate at €1.75. The company also announced during the week that Forgendo Ltd (the joint venture company between Go and Emirates International Telecommunications) has acquired a further 891,182 shares in Forthnet, for a total consideration of €1,734,629.

Bank of Valletta was the week's most liquid and actively traded equity as investors exchanged 52,632 shares over 38 deals. The financial services company defied the week's negative trend as it registered no change in price to close at €2.65.

In the banking sector, HSBC Bank Malta was the week's worst performer as the equity lost 1.9 per cent of its share value to close at €2.55.

FIMBank and Lombard Bank Malta ended the week in negative territory as they both shed 0.8 per cent to close at $1.27 and €2.58 respectively.

International Hotel Investments and Malta International Airport shares depreciated in value as they shed 3.9 per cent and 3.6 per cent to terminate at €0.951 and €2.100 respectively.

Plaza Centres and GlobalCapital also ended the week in the red as they declined by 1.2 per cent and 3.2 per cent respectively.
