A fine line between jewellery and fine art will be drawn during a 10-day exhibition mounted by Diamonds International to mark 10 years of Damiani in Malta.

Diamonds International director Karl Micallef said the company liaised with Damiani in Italy to bring over a number of priceless and unique pieces that will be on display at their flagship outlet in Portomaso as from tomorrow.

"This selection from among Damiani's most lavish and exclusive creations, coupled with the presence of Silvia Damiani, vice president and image director of Casa Damiani who will be in Malta today purposely to launch the event tomorrow, is bound to be a unique occasion for all at Diamonds International and the public who would like to view this collection," Mr Micallef said.

He explained that the exhibits will include a number of collections that contributed to establishing Damiani among the top jewellery brands among celebrities. Among them will be the Sophia Loren Collection, created as a tribute to the Italian actress's beauty, charm and extraordinary character. This features necklaces, rings, pendants, earrings and bracelets in rose gold and diamonds of timeless elegance.

Made of diamonds on white and gray shade in burnished gold from black to gray, the Cincillà Collection is another forte in the exhibition highlighting the excellence in Damiani's craftsmanship. The elegant game of burnishing on feather partially built-in and on the griffes that surround the diamond gray, highlights the nuance of colour and enhances the smoothness of the manufacture suggesting the neck fur or ostrich boa. Described as "astounding and seductive", the Damianissima collection, another highlight at the exhibition, emphasises a stylistic motif. It is worked in three colours of gold - white, pink, yellow - and enhanced by the ever-present diamonds and comprises rings, medallion pendants and bangles for the contemporary woman.

Another exhibit, the Belle Epoque, is inspired by the world of cinema and brings to the limelight the retro feel of the modern design of its motif. This collection features a geometrical motif that evokes a film reel and bright square frames of brilliant-cut diamonds that emphasise the preciousness and chromatic splendour of the central gem.

The Aurora collection is an epitome of the feminine, soft and embracing style of Damiani's creations. Precious gems that dance and twirl as if suspended in soft light-filled arabesques, make up necklaces, earrings and rings in white gold and precious diamonds.

The exhibition ends on June 28.
