GRTU backs complaint against Visa Europe
Twelve years after its initial complaint against Visa and MasterCard, EuroCommerce is lodging a new complaint against Visa Europe.
The European retail association argues that the fees set by Visa and its member banks and imposed on retailers, constitute an infringement of European competition law. It was the imposition of such that led the European Commission to rule against MasterCard in December 2007. EuroCommerce calls for the same robust decision against Visa.
GRTU director general Vince Farrugia said: “We are confident that the European Commission will deal with this new case in the same way they have decided on MasterCard in 2007. In the end, all consumers will benefit from a better functioning market.
“We also expect that the regulator in Malta - the Malta Financial and Services Authority, to start acting on these issues as Maltese traders and retailers continue to suffer the burdens as if the European Commission does not exist.”

Carla Mifsud...Once again you don't know what you are talking about.
In the 1950's GWU and MLP were not one party. They supported each other in a national strike that is now part of Maltese history, but apart from that, in the 50's there was no marriage between the two organisations.
That came about much later. You're not too stringent on facts are you?
Well, who need facts when you can just throw gossip?
As to your point regarding politicians never leading unions, well, I understood your point straight up, and actually agree 100%.
I just pointed out that within the GWU, the union you chose to attack, such an event cannot happen. It is happening elswhere obviously, but you still felt the need to involve the GWU in someone else's sins.
As for Dr Abela, likes and dislikes are a matter of personal opinion. If you can find anything about Union Policies opposing Dr Abela's nomination as President, that would mean that you had a point..
As I said, look up facts before firing away. It would be more becoming..

yes bravu Vince
if the retailers dont fork their share of fees, it will be ALL forked out by the customers
SO " In the end, all consumers will benefit from a better functioning market " should read
In the end, all consumers will pay more

Dear Jeremy,
I never really bothered reading the statue of GWU, what I know for a fact that in the 50's GWU and MLP were effectievley one big party. Please dont tell me that GWU is independent from PL! If you seriously think so, its you who is completely and utterly brainwahsed. Having George Abela as GWU lawyer, the deputy leader of then MLP? ahh now no he is the President and you guys dont like him anymore cause he helped the formation of a new union. Hmm interesting.....
However, my point is that politcians can never lead unions, its either one or the other. And Vince Farrugia is a case in point.

Carla Mifsud, just a little word for the wiser.
The GWU statute makes it impossible for any officials to participate in any elections under a party banner without them having to resign from their position within the Union.
Whilst I am sure that you have been swayed by countless unfounded propoganda, I still suggest that you check simple facts before commenting, because albeit ideas might be conceived by your enlightened self, this does not necessarily make them true.

Now that our friend Vince got trashed in the MEP elections, should we start listening to GRTU again? I seriously think that if retailers are to have a union this union is to be completely independent from politicans. I cannot imagine a laborite or nationalist members of UHM, MAM or other independent unions to have a PN or PL candidate lead them. The only union I can convieve that would do so is GWU, and we all know thats not a union but a PL party branch. Vince I believe and I am sure I am not the only one, its time the GRTU gives you the boot.
Good bye and time to get new people into GRTU!!!
