The Malta International Training Centre has presented nine HSBC Bank employees with certificates for having successfully completed the Diploma in Financial Services Operations and Compliance.
This diploma was organised by MITC and the Malta Financial Services Authority in collaboration with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and Enterprise LSE Ltd.
The course consisted of a local programme and an international online component spread out over a 12-month period (October 2007 - September 2008). Possession of such a diploma is taken into positive consideration by the MFSA when determining levels of staff competence employed by institutions licensed to operate within the financial services sector.
The international content of the programme covered a range of financial topics including financial systems, risk and expected return in capital markets, the role of financial intermediation, financial crises, conflicts of interest, and the regulation in primary and secondary markets.
The local course content also covered Malta's financial services legislative framework including commercial partnerships, company law, capital, corporate governance, prevention of money laundering, prevention of market abuse, insolvency and bankruptcy, taxation and double taxation agreements.
Course participants also had the opportunity to conduct studies in one of three electives, namely, banking regulation, insurance or investment services.
