The Labour Party said today that it welcomed an extension of the tuna season announced for those fishermen who had not yet attained their quota.
Joe Sammut, the party's spokesman on agriculture and fihseries complained, however, that figures were being used to favour some to the detriment of others.
Dr Sammut said that the quota had either been reached or not. The minister had no power to go over what was established by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna and this was a clear sign that quotas were managed and manipulated for Maltese fishermen to be denied what was theirs by right.
The PL would continue working for justice to be made and for workers' rights not to continue to be eroded.
