48,000 fewer passengers in May

The airport registered a 15.8 per cent drop in the number of passengers passing through last month and an average 11.2 per cent decrease since the start of the year.

Malta International Airport said passengers fell by 48,313 to 257,510 in May when compared to the same month last year. Passengers from the airport's three main markets - the UK, Italy and Germany - dropped by 15.1 per cent, one per cent and 24.1 per cent respectively.

Similarly, aircraft and cargo and mail figures fell by 8.3 and 17.2 per cent.
