GWU joins anti-exploitation campaign
The GWU has joined a Europe-wide trade union campaign against the exploitation of workers.
Cory Greenland, secretary of the union's manufacturing section, said the GWU was particularly concerned by exploitation of workers in the construction, cleaning and security sectors.
In some cases, he said, workers were working full time with four different companies so that they were shown as being employed part-time and paid a pittance
The GWU, he said, was urging companies to commit themselves not to exploit their workers and to only negage sub-contractors whose employees had decent working conditions.

The most exploited workers in Malta are those who work in shops like shop assistants/salegirls most of them are paid minimum wage forever and when they open they mouth they are fired, same treatment is received in case of pregnancy. They are given a 1% commission on sales though. GWU and Govt please investigate and DO SOMETHING! Can we have a union for these persons?

Well done GWU. The Union is swiftly adapting to meet the challenges of our times - it is a commendable sign of maturity.
