The GWU has joined a Europe-wide trade union campaign against the exploitation of workers.

Cory Greenland, secretary of the union's manufacturing section, said the GWU was particularly concerned by exploitation of workers in the construction, cleaning and security sectors.

In some cases, he said, workers were working full time with four different companies so that they were shown as being employed part-time and paid a pittance

The GWU, he said, was urging companies to commit themselves not to exploit their workers and to only negage sub-contractors whose employees had decent working conditions.
