An application has been submitted for the demolition of a house situated in the main road of St Paul's Bay (Veċċa area) known as Id-dar tas-surmast. It's a few metres away from the village core.
The style of this house is quite unique in our locality. Its façade also holds several historical values such as lavur, faxxa, skultura, kolonni, iron works, window style, etc. I don't have anything against development but old façades should be retained.
This would mean incurring more expense and cause inconvenience from excavating and building till the façade level is reached. Mepa should issue a scheme as compensation and to encourage individuals to retain the old façades. It should also allow the construction of an additional floor or leave it as an option for the client.
