Muscat says he can't commit on future electricity prices

Labour leader Joseph Muscat says he cannot make a commitment that he will reduce the electricity rates if elected Prime Minister in 2013.

In an interview with The Sunday Times today, Dr Muscat dismissed a guarantee given by PL general secretary Jason Micallef on Bondiplus last Monday that the Labour Party would reduce the unpopular utility tariffs the minute it gets to government.

But when questioned whether Mr Micallef was speaking on behalf of the party, Dr Muscat adopts a cautious stand and says: "I'm not going to make a commitment for the next election before I have the matters in hand."

Dr Muscat skirts questions on whether he is happy with all four candidates elected on the PL ticket. He also maintains that he would do his utmost to obtain as many votes as possible for his 'progressive'
movement, including those who voted for the far right.

A year after his election, Dr Muscat says he is happy that his party is eradicating the siege mentality and is accepting criticism better.
