The San Ġwann FC ground recently hosted a fun-filled football activity as parents joined their children in taking part in a penalty shoot-out.
The event, organised by the Zazu Football School (ZFS) to mark the end of the winter season, attracted around 120 participants who vied for a host of prizes. These included shirts of English Championship clubs Sheffield United, Barnsley and Coventry City, four Malta tops, and two Festina watches sponsored by Gaba Goielli.
The parents and the ZFS members in the 13/15-year-old age-group took up the challenge of trying to beat Premier League goalkeeper Reuben Gauci from the 11-metre spot. Each participant had a total of 10 penalty shots. A penalty competition was also held for the younger members of the ZFS who were awarded points according to the accuracy of their kicks.
"The idea behind this activity was to bring the parents and their children together," Ray Farrugia, the head coach of Zazu Football School, said in a statement.
"The turn-out was very encouraging and I believe that all the participants, young and old, had a good time. It was a fitting way to end the school's 2008-09 winter programme."
Barnsley and Malta forward Daniel Bogdanovic made a guest appearance at the ZFS shoot-out.
Farrugia also announced that the ZFS are organising a trip to London this summer.
Last year, a group of ZFS pupils spent a week in Manchester where they had a training session with Manchester United Foundation coaches at The Cliff and also played some friendly matches against local teams.
This year, the ZFS are planning to visit London between August 17 and 24 after Farrugia established contact with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and their youth academy.
Meanwhile, the ZFS 2009 summer schedule will kick off on July 6.
