The Malta College of Arts, Sciences and Technology (Mcast) last Thursday launched its prospectus of full-time courses for the 2009-2010 scholastic year, offering a wide diversity of courses ranging from degrees to courses for adults and students with learning difficulties.
Mcast students who have successfully completed two-year Higher National Diploma courses will be able to enrol on vocational degrees that are being introduced in October in the Art and Design, ICT, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Business and Commerce institutes. Further degree programmes will be introduced in the college's other institutes over the next two years.
The college has doubled its efforts over the past year to cater for students with learning difficulties who may have completed five compulsory schooling years but emerged with no formal qualifications.
Basic courses have been specifically designed to enable such students to improve their basic literacy and numeracy skills. When appropriate, the college intends to extend its one-year Foundation course to further help them acquire such skills.
As from September the college is also introducing a 'maturity clause' to enable adults who wish to update their skills, or learn new skills relatively late in life and is offering a wide range of evening classes specifically designed for such students.
