Hold-up turns out to be a hoax

A 49-year-old man from Floriana reported late yesterday afternoon that he had been held up in the area of St James Ditch in his hometown but investigations revealed it had been a hoax, the police said last night.

The man alleged he was held up by unknown persons armed with a sharp and pointed object who stole personal documents and a sum of €1,100 in cash.

He was taken to a health centre and was certified to be suffering from light injuries.

The duty magistrate was informed and court experts were appointed but it later transpired that it was a false report.

No further details were furnished by the police at the time of writing.
