Telephone directory
Since the last telephone directory was published in 2004 it is earnestly hoped that a new directory is published, preferably this year or at the latest during 2010.
It is expected that the new directory should this time incorporate the new postcodes so that we would have a complete directory, otherwise we would have a half- baked job as happened in 2004.
If Go plc continues in its obstinacy and does not comply with this request, Maltapost should publish its new postcode directory since the last one was issued in 1991.
The minister responsible should see that a new telephone/postcode directory is published soon by whoever is obliged to do so.

Thank you for your information.
However, the Data Protection Act is being used in many ways which were not originally intended.
So do those who question its publication now contend that all the countries in the world are breaching their customers privacy because they publish their telephone numbers and other relevant information? I find this reasoning absurd and can only think that the shareholders want to save money to have more funds available for distribution among themselves.
On the same reasoning, are we now going to try to stop publishing the Voting Registers because it would be breaching the Data Protection Act?
Isn't it then absurd for the private wardens companies to have all the data about all the drivers in Malta at the touch of a button?
Does this not also breach the Data Protection Act?
Sorry, but I demand my right to a printed telephone directory.

Joe Borg, Mosta - Just for everyones info the telephone directory has not been published due to the fact that the MCA is holding back from having it published due to the Data protection act. It is examining to see if it should be published or not. The same question was asked by Go plc share holders at the last AGm of Go. A recording of the AGm cna be found here :

So it is not a matter of just printing a directory.

While a printed directory should still be published to cater for people who still prefer printed directories, nowadays most subscribers just perform a convenient online search in one of the available directories. Unfortunately most online searches are hard to perform, having to go through numerous pages to get what you want. A new website has been developed just for this purpose, which is very simple to search and which always contains the latest information as posted by the subscribers themselves. And what's best, it's completely free of charge. Those interested are welcome to visit http://www.directory.com.mt.

Funnily enough a few days ago a survey's results were published, claiming that most people no longer need or refer to a printed directory. This is quite obvious, since the last directories were printed around 5 years ago and are very outdated by now, especially with the other telecom companies providing their own fixed lines such as Vodafone and Melita. Then again it's no wonder Maltacom doesn't bother printing and distributing a new one, when it has a directory service which charges €0.23/call!

I see worse things happening. Yesterday it was reported that the directory is not being used except by some old people. I detect a kite flying here. is this excuse being banded about so that the publication of the direactory is terminated?

Agree 100% with you.
GO should abide by its obligations and print a new telephone directory and not shirk its responsibility.
