New pharmaceutical factory opens at Bulebel
Solea Pharma has invested two million euros in a new factory at Bulebel.
The factory, which employs 10 people who it intends to increase to 25 in the coming two years, was inaugurated this morning by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech.
Mr Fenech said this was possible because Malta was offering a whole package including modern and quality legislation, trained and qualified workers and professional and efficient assistance by the entities responsible for investment in Malta.
Solea Pharma forms part of Gadea Pharma, a Spanish enterprise which employs 250 people in different countries

This is good news and im sure that anybody looking for a job from that area or near areas would be thanking thier lucky stars they can get a job , BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER SIDE OF MALTA WHY WE NEVER HAVE ANY NEW FACTORIES OPENING IN THE NORTHEN SIDE , EVERYTHING IS AGAINST US , WE HAVE TO TRAVEL TO ETC IN
HAL FAR EVERY DAY AND WE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WETHER WE SHOULD CONTINUE AS WE DO NOT HAVE ANYMEANS OR SUBSIDIES TOWARDS OUR TRAVEL ,
MAYBE WHEN I WAS AT MR TONIO FENECH RECEPTION BEFORE THE ELECTION I SHOULD HAVE HAD A WORD ABOUT IT ....SOME OF .US NORTHENERS ARE NOT MADE OF MONEY OF MONEY ..GOD BLESS THE MALTESE WORKERS

This is good news - not very good news mind you, but good news nontheless, considering the unemployment problem we are facing. I was under the impression that Finance Minister Tonio Fenech had resigned over the VAT scandal - apparently he's still there trying to make taxpayers forget the scandalous goings on at the VAT department for which he was ultimately responsible even though he would have people believe the scam was not his responsibility AT ALL! Taxpayers believe that Minister Tonio Fenech should resign or be kicked out by the P.M. for gross inefficiency at his job. How can we take this administration seriously if this isn't done?

@N.Grima Lately we've been hearing 7000 jobs here 2000 jobs there I just thought that big numbers counted and who said anything about 70's ,labour, communism, bla bla bla who cares what happened then we are living now and by the way millions of businesses worldwide fail for not doing that and millions other fail for doing just that

Well, the "factory" is actually new, the building maybe not... stone walls don't produce anything. @ Rita Spiteri -- first of all, every drop counts - in fact, most businesses in Malta and in the EU are SMEs... take these away and you have 99% unemployment; the economic significant of a factory goes much beyond the people it directly employs, with such a statement being naive at best - this factory needs materials, servicing, cleaning, transport, replacement parts, outsourcing, certifications, studies, lawyers, accountants, auditors... and let's not forget the cash that goes into the Treasury's (MALTA'S, YOURS AND MINE) from income taxes, the single major reason for ANY company to set up in ANY country rather than another these days. Not only is your view reminiscent of the communism regimes of old, but is also evidence of an unfortunately widespread ignorance to the fact that the days when labour made the major part of the cost of any (non-service) good whatsoever have been gone since the 70s. The world has changed - change with it; millions of businesses worldwide fail for not doing that.

@mario gellel, I would like to know the compensation these 600 workers are getting. Gellel did not dare to tell us. Gellel like his bedfellows always present a negative attitude with whatever this Govt does. I pray for the day of a labour Govt (perhaps in fours yrs time) so that we shall hear acclamations instead of whining.

Mr.FENECH,SINCE YOU ARE GOOD AT MAKING SPEECHES FOR THE OPENING OF A 10 MEN FACTORY, YOU SHOULD ALSO MAKE A SPEECH AT GO TELECOMS FOR THE LAYOFFS OF 600 WORKMEN. I AM SURE THEY WILL GREET YOU WITH ROSES.

@ salvu axisa - you're right.
This was Blaschem, run by a certain Sig. Blasi up to a few years ago until a spanish company took it over and revamped it completely. The pity is that it lies close to 2 junkyards!
This was the place where an explosion took place when trapped gas was ignited during welding. Thank goodness no one was hurt.
Article is misleading, to a certain extent - the name is new, the factory not quite.
Good luck anyway and wish you success Solea. Thanks for choosing Malta.

To call it new, is quite misleading!!! The factory changed owners, it used to be called Blaschem. It is the same buiding, the same line of production but different owners, different name and a new facelift.
