A drug addict collapsed in the dock this morning during his arraignment.

As Ronald Cutajar, 30, of Zabbar was giving his particulars, he lost consciousness and slumped on the dock.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman called for an ambulance, which arrived 10 minutes later and took him to Mater Dei Hospital.

The magistrate later ordered Mr Cutajar to be taken to the Forensic Unit at Mount Carmel and requesting his psychiatric assessment.

While waiting for the magistrate to come out, Mr Cutajar had been moaning and groaning in pain.
