Runner Jelimo still not fully fit

Kenya's Olympic 800m champion Pamela Jelimo vowed to return to fitness ahead of the World Athletics Championships after an indifferent start to the season.

The 20-year-old athlete, who split up with her coach of three years last February, has struggled to regain her form following a leg surgery in March. She picked up a tendon injury while training in Kenya and had to seek treatment in Belgium.

But after a disappointing start to the season - finishing seventh at the Prefontaine Classic last Sunday - Jelimo has pledged she will be ready to compete at the Kenyan national athletics championships on June 25-27.

"I am assuring the Kenyan people that I am fine. I will be ready for the World Championships in Berlin," she said. Jelimo finished 2008 unbeaten in the 800 metres and won the IAAF Golden League one-million-dollar jackpot.
