Parents report son, 16, to police
The parents of a 16-year-old heroin addict reported their son to the police after a series of thefts from their home.
They asked a court yesterday to remand him in custody for his own good, a request which Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona upheld.
The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, has been on the highly-addictive drug, dubbed smack, for about a year and a half after hanging out with the wrong crowd, police sources said.
Accompanied by his parents, both in tears, the boy pleaded not guilty to stealing a DVD player, two mobile phones, a gold ring belonging to his father, a Sony Playstation, €1,000 in cash, a camera, a crash helmet and €100 in cash from his grandmother.
The crimes all allegedly happened between December and last Monday.
The teenager also denied breaching the conditions of a previous release.
Police Inspector Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.

you did the right thing. i know the counselors say you have to wait until the offer the hand for help? however, i put someone in a tight spot and she had no choice but to take the help. this is her third year off the drink which i am proud of her. sometimes you have to be hard to be kind best of luck.

May Our Lady and her son Jesus Christ together with St. Joseph keep this family united and help them in this very difficult time. To the parents - your son needs all the love and understanding you can give him. I promise to keep you in my prayers.
God bless.

It must have been incredibly hard for these parents to report their own son. Many wouldn't have, and I can only applaud them for their courage. I just hope that he is given the appropriate rehabilitation he needs so that he will be able to start a new life with clean slate later on.
Well done and best wishes.
