Bathing waters reach high quality levels
Bathing water quality was high around Malta and Gozo last year, reaching 98.9 percent of the EU's mandatory values, a report issued by the EU today shows. This was an increase of 3.4% over 2007.
It said that 94.3 percent of bathing waters (82 sites) met the more stringent guide values, an increase of 4.6 percent over the previous year.
Only one bathing water site was non-compliant with mandatory values, compared to four in 2007. No area was closed for the entire bathing season.
The EU said compliance with mandatory values across the bloc increased to 96%.

And the article doesnt mention the only place that is non-compliant with mandatory values.
I makes sense to let the public know the location to avoid swimming in the area

This simply means that our bathing waters are not up to EU standard !! A mandatory value is a mandatory value. In this particular case you can exceed it but you can't go lower. That is why it is call mandatory. So in simple terms, the EU issued mandatory values are a 100%. We are at 98.9%. So we are quite close, BUT NOT THERE YET.

high quality levels?
No rush at all to have high quality levels of bathing water. I mean, the turtles who feed on jellyfish have only been gone from these islands, what? 10 years? No problem...i'm sure the turtles will come back once they hear of this news.... NOT.

That is the EU for you. In all probability the beaches would have not been fit for bathing had we not joined the EU. And many more good things came out of that. We must all realize that if it does not work it is NOT the EU to blame but it is US !!!! Having said that, of course the beaches should be fit for swimming if we want tourism.
