Reflections on MEP elections outcome (2)
These European elections results are certainly a disappointment to us all. I personally have worked hard with many a candidate who asked me for help in my areas of competence. I held house parties, gatherings, two large scale gatherings in Sliema, other functions organised with local council candidates, house visits with candidates and even a walkabout in Sliema.
All MEP candidates thanked me for this, and I do acknowledge their thanks, and opened my door to them. I do share the disappointment overall. I say this lest no empty vessel comes up with a fantasy theory that can only contradict the above, proven with names and all.
Another MEP candidate called me up so many times to meet but we failed to hold a meeting. Another came across via messages from good friends.
It was yet another great experience, each with his own system of work and campaign, and I fitted in each way of doing things.
Although the timing of these elections was somewhat uncomfortable for our PN candidates, the party held on to its 40 per cent mark.
A big thanks goes to all candidates. I enjoyed working with them all.

Mr Farrugia started it and the other MEPs followed, that is, stating that the PN deserves to win the 5 seats.
Well the PN got what they deserve.
The writing is on the wall, but unfortunately the PN never learns.
In the last general election the PN had their biggest asset, which now they lost – i.e. Dr Sant.

Well and truly said, Mr D Scerri. Perhaps the writer of this letter may remember that self-praise is no commendation.

When will MPs / MEPs stop reasoning that parties bring them votes ? Will a lavish party make me change my mind on who I think should get my number 1 or 2 or 3 or 11 ?
In fact sometimes parties can have the opposit effect. Take Mr. Perici Calscione's party at mistra. So many PN environmentalists were taken aback with a party held there, when the site in itself was the means of a huge controversy a year ago + the concern over the environement and others suspecting that this party was held there to create a case for future parties to be held there. Notwithstanding MEPAs ok for this party, I assure you, I am one who gave Mr. Calascione one of the last numbers on the ballot paper for having the audacity to hold the party there.
This goes on to other things though as well. Like MPs sending us Xmas cards with government sponsored stationery, house visits close to an election and then forget us the rest of the time etc.. etc.. Political people should stop thinking that voters are the once naive people they once were, hence the growing floating voters.

What the people need is to see all the NP MPs work together with each other for the good of the country and not for their own personal gain or favour.

When you have quite finished patting yourself on the back, realise that attaining 40% of the votes is nothing to brag about when one considers the blinkered donkey voters out there.
Wake up and start listening to your constituents, as an MP should.
