Selection process for Portugal under way

FISEC Malta has just started its selection process for the upcoming Games in Algarve, Portugal, between July 17 and 23.

A series of meetings have already been held this year during which delegates were informed about the organisation of the Games in Portugal, the sport to be contested and the qualifying standards established by the local organisers.

The Maltese FISEC Games committee is looking to assemble a strong group of athletes with the major sport likely to be contested in Portugal next month being track and field, swimming and table tennis.

FISEC Malta chairman Bro Martin Borg said the level of the FISEC Games has improved significantly these past few years and the first indications in Portugal are suggesting the upward trend will be maintained.

"For most of our athletes these Games offer the first taste of international competition," he said.

"FISEC Malta has always done its best to lure more youngsters to the sport.

"The response has again been encouraging and that's a positive signal. In Portugal, we are expecting the level of competition to be high.

"I also want to take this occasion to congratulate those Maltese athletes who did so well for the country in the Cyprus GSSE, just finished."
