Most Nationalist Party agents have left the former Naxxar Trade Fair Ground where EP election votes are being counted as all hope that the party would gain a third seat evaporated.

The votes of candidate Vince Farrugia have now been distributed with 5,533 going to David Casa, 3,871 to Roberta Metsola Tedesco Triccas and 196 to Labour candidates. 487 were non-transferable.

Giving his reaction, PL deputy leader Toni Abela said he could now annouce that Malta's sixth seat in the EP was going to Labour, which was gaining four seats in this election against the PN's two. This meant that the PL had won a majority both in votes and in seats. The result, he said, was democratically fair.

PL president Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi hoped that the elected MEPs would give the Maltese the best service possible. The people, he said, had understood who could give the best service and their support filled the PL with courage.
