Over the past 12 years, 31 of 60 fostered children decided to stay on with their foster carers when they reached the age of 18.

The other 30 decided to step out into an independent life or went back to their natural parents. Answering a parliamentary question by Labour MP Carmelo Abela, Social Policy Minister John Dalli said the ages of foster parents varied between 29 and 73 years.
