Vote counters at Naxxar counting hall have started the distribution of votes according to the second preferences awarded to Arnold Cassola, a process which could have a major bearing on whether it would be the PL or the PN which wins the sixth seat in the European Parliament elections.

People behind the perspex said they are seeing many non-transferable votes.

The last candidate to be eliminated was Labour's Sharon Ellul Bonici, with the big gainer being John Attard Montalto, who inherited 1,911 votes, leaving him a total of 17,111 votes. That may give him slim hope of being re-elected if he later inherits many votes from Claudette Abela Baldacchino who has 15,983 votes. Attard Montalto has 17,111 and Marlene Mizzi, 20,873.

Among the other candidates, Louis Grech got 1,163 votes, Joseph Cuschieri 1,073, Marlene Mizzi 1,021 and Claudette Abela Baldacchino 951.

A small number of Nationalist candidates also inherited some of the votes including Roberta Metsola Tedesco Triccas who got 23 votes and David Casa 34.
