Congratulations to the village of Mellieħa for having received the EU Eden Award recently. I myself have always promoted Malta and especially Mellieħa as an area of natural beauty.
The award comes of course due to the hard work of the former council led by John Buttigieg and the present council led by Robert Cutajar, who I sincerely hope is working with everybody else on the council and not as a one-man band. Delegation has always brought a lot of success to the area. Of course my congratulations also go to the residents of Mellieħa who are so proud of their village and who keep it so clean.
It is such a shame that parts of Mellieħa, especially at the moment, are looking like the aftermath of war. But I suppose that's what one calls progress these days and for this I suppose we have to thank the lack of imagination of Mepa who give out permits right at the start of the tourist season.
A lot can also be done to address the need for traffic to run more smoothly in Borg Olivier Street. Most of the time it is simply a no go area and for visitors it must spoil the experience of coming into the village. I am sure that before long this ongoing problem will be solved.
Once again, thanks to everybody where thanks are due and let us all work together to make Mellieħa a very nice place to visit but an even nicer place in which to live.
