Lowell gets biggest number of Josie Muscat's votes
Imperium Europa's Norman Lowell was the biggest beneficiary of the second preferences made in votes allocated to Josie Muscat in the European Parliament elections.
The distribution of Dr Muscat's 1616 votes after his elimination on the 12 count saw the biggest number, 307 go to Mr Lowell, followed by 203 to AD chairman Arnold Cassola and 109 to the PN's David Casa.
PN candidate Alex Perici Calascione is the next candidate to fall, having won 1, 741 votes.
The counting of votes has now been going on for close to 24 hours at the counting hall in Naxxar, with only Nationalist candidate Simon Busuttil having been elected. The PL is expected to elect three candidates and the PN two, but the destination of the sixth seat is still in doubt with the contest likely between Labour's Marlene Mizzi and the PN's Roberta Metsola Tedesco Triccas.
The PN had been optimistic of winning the seat because of the bigger number of their surplus votes but the gap has narrowed and Mrs Mizzi has more personal votes.

I'm not a hunter and I'm against hunting, but I have to say that your comments are arrogant.
You don't have to be so public about your desperation that PN's hunting promises have not been believed this time round.

@Kevin Zammit
Edward Demicoli was the first candidate to be eliminated and everyone remembers his battle-cry : "I am totally against hunting". He was the only candidate who made the hunting issue his crusade during the EU election campaign.
I would have expected a lot of support for him from the “huge” anti-hunting lobby.
Can you please analyze that for us?!!

Kevin Zammit, who are you to judge people you never even met? Are you able to distance diagnose fellow countrymen as being `immature and irresponsable`? Maybe you can save NASA billions of dollars and tell us if there ever was life on Mars. You should be man enough to call back what you wrote as it is just putting shame on yourself.

Dear Kevin Zammit,
The Federation for Hunting Trapping and Conservation altered its statute last year and for this election which did not determine any government gave its hints to the members. Neither APC nor any other PN candidate was on the list of preferred candidates who spoke constructively with FKNK. The result speaks for itself. The hunting and trapping issue may not be responsable for the great swing but has surely contributed to many citizens not voting and not collecting votes probably weakening the PN side along with others who made the swing to show GonziPN leadership that they need to be heard.
They are victims of a situation brought by by the Nationalist Government`s way to handle things in an un-social way. Hopefully this result will enlighten GonziPN to give hunters and trappers what is permissable within the parameters of the EU Law which is already less than what they (PN, OPM, MIC, SB e bella compania) promised and GUARANTEED.
It is never too late to solve such an issue which is dear to the heart of so many fellow citizens.
Maybe next time round the situation will improve and the result will be different.

What is really interesting is that Lowell got way more votes than Calascione. Is he not associated with the hunters lobby? If that is correct then people are more worried about immigration than hunting and proves that the hunters are just a bag of hot air. Maybe this could serve as a signal to just shut them up once and for all and ban all guns from the hands of immature and irresponsible people.

Dear Editor, If you are taking the individual candidates, it's one way how to look at it and you are right. If you look at the parties, PN inherited 325 while PL inherited 305 from Josie Muscat - I personally expected the other way round. An interesting fact is that it seams that Lowel may be eliminated in the 17th count and by then, 5 to 6 candidates from the 2 big parties may have already been eliminated. The above are facts about the figures and should not be interpreted as a personal opinion, but it is getting interesting :-)
