Bishop Nikol Cauchi has expressed solidarity with Gozo Bishop Mario Grech and condemned the offensive graffiti sprayed on the façade of the Gozo Curia.
Mgr Cauchi wrote to his successor saying he deplored and condemned this "despicable" act. The bishop added that he had full trust in Mgr Grech's pastoral activities and offered his prayers. After the incident was reported to police last Thursday, Mgr Grech said the allegations defamed his work as a spiritual shepherd and were related to decisions he might have taken to protect the interest of Gozitan churches.
Mgr Grech had said that although he was satisfied that many loved the Church, it was regrettable to notice occasionally a lack of comprehension and collaboration.
The act was also condemned by the Gozo College of Parish Priests, which reaffirmed its confidence in Mgr Grech's leadership, as well as by Archbishop Paul Cremona and Vicar General Annetto Depasquale.
