The upcoming performance of Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden featuring tenor Joseph Calleja will be screened live at Argotti Gardens on June 30.

St James Cavalier has confirmed that it has reached agreement with the ROH to screen La Traviata.

An audience of up to 750 patrons at the Argotti will be able to watch the opera under the stars and sip champagne which will be available from the bar.

La Traviata will be screened in cinemas across Europe, including the UK, Austria, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain.

The American soprano Renée Fleming takes on the role of doomed courtesan Violetta, with Joseph Calleja as her young lover Alfredo, and Thomas Hampson as his unyielding father in the classic production.

The screening of the opera in Malta forms part of St James Cavalier Cinema's new initiative to broadcast live performances from the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House and the National Theatre London.

This is a highly popular and engaging artistic experience for audiences around the world. Filmed and broadcast live via satellite in high definition, the screenings increase the access of excellent theatrical productions to millions of people around the world at a reduced price.
