On Friday, Pierre Brincat's national team were off to a superb start in a friendly mini-tournament, currently being played at the Centenary Stadium, Ta' Qali.

The Maltese team beat Latvia 4-0. Natasha Pace opened the score on eight minutes and Dorianne Theuma almost made it 2-0 soon after but her shot struck the bar.

Emma Xuereb doubled the score in the 49th minute and Theuma made it 3-0 three minutes later as the hosts imposed their superiority on the Latvians.

Ylenia Carabott missed a penalty but Rachel Cuschieri made up for that partial setback eight minutes from time with a well-taken goal to round off the score at 4-0.

The other two teams in the competition are Bulgaria and Luxembourg. Today Malta plays against Luxembourg (5.30 p.m) and Latvia try to get back in contention with a victory over Bulgaria (7.45 p.m.).
