Mandy Minella and Claudine Schaul, the Luxembourg pair in women's doubles, had the easiest time of their lives to win a GSSE gold medal yesterday.
In fact, they did not even step on the court as Luxembourg were declared winners following the withdrawal of Liechtenstein from the final.
Liechtenstein were forced to pull out after one of the players, Marina Novak, failed to shrug off an injury sustained in the semi-final victory over Malta.
Kathinka von Deichmann was the other one who played for Liechtenstein in doubles.
On Thursday, they beat Elaine Genovese and Kim Cassar in three sets, 6-2 5-7 6-2.
The bronze medal in women's doubles was shared by Monaco and Malta.
Jean-Rene Lisnard and Guillaume Couillard, of Monaco, won the men's doubles competition after beating Domenico Vicini and Stefano Galvani, of San Marino, 6-1 6-2 in the final.
Today, Minella and Schaul will play against each other in the women's singles final. Lisnard faces Monaco's Benjamin Balleret in the men's final.
