Trade gap narrows

The gap between exports and imports narrowed by €55.4 million to stand at €108.6 million in April, compared to the same month last year.

The National Statistics Office said both imports and exports dropped, by €97.5 million and €42.4 million in value respectively.

It said imports dropped because of less trade in industrial supplies, fuel and lubricants.

Exports declined because of less trade in machinery, transport equipment, miscellaneous and semi-manufactured goods. Between January and April, the trade gap narrowed by €80.7 million to €383.6 million because the value of imports and exports fell by €263.7 million and €183 million respectively.
