The 13th edition of the GSSE will go down in the history books for the record number of athletes taking part.

Two years ago Monaco established a new record for entries with 799 but this year there are 843 athletes taking part in 11 sport mainly held in venues in Nicosia and Limassol. This figure is likely to increase in future, what with the participation of newcomers Montenegro who were admitted to the GSSE fold earlier this week.

The Games were first held in 1985 in San Marino. On that occasion 222 athletes took part. In 2011, Liechtenstein will play hosts for the second time after the edition of 1999.

So far, the Games organising committee in Cyprus have issued a staggering 3,291 accreditations that also include coaching staff, officials and VIPs. A total of 334 media personnel are covering the event.
