A total of 15,862 voting documents for the European Parliament elections remained uncollected at the offices of the Electoral Commission today, up from some 10,100 when the first EP elections were held in Malta in 2004.

That means that of 322,411 registered voters, 306,549 are eligible to vote tomorrow.

As is the norm, most of the uncollected voting documents were in the North of Malta, with 2,884 voting documents uncollected in the 12th district and 2,124 in the 10th, although, for the EP elections, Malta is considered as being one whole district. Just 619 documents remained uncollected in the 4th district.

The party leaders ended their campaigns late yesterday by urging the people to go out and vote.

Claudia Calleja asked several people in Republic Street yesterday whether they intended to vote. Their replies are on the video clip above.

A timesofmalta.com online poll showed 68.7 percent of respondents saying they intended to vote, a low percentage by Maltese standards.

At the 2004 EP elections, there were 304,283 registered voters and 250,691 votes were case - 82.4%.
