The Civil Protection Department was called to the Mediterranean Film Studios at Rinella yesterday evening to extinguish a fire which went out of control while filming was taking place.

No one was injured in the incident which developed when a sequence of a fire on a ship was being filmed.

Sources said that something went wrong and the controlled fire spread to other areas at the studios.

The fire was brought under control by personnel from three CPD fire tenders.

Filming is at present taking place at the Rinella water tanks of Clouds Above the Slope, a production by NHK, Japan's national public broadcasting organisation, featuring the Battle of Tsushima.

It is the biggest episodic drama in Japanese TV history, in terms of scale, budget and time, and the largest Asian production to be shot in Malta.

The 13-day shoot is spread over a three-week period.
