The Broadcasting Authority will be taking steps according to law to suspend the licence of Far-Fetched Media Ltd to operate Family TV.

Family TV, which went on air on April 5, 2008, was off the screens on Wednesday, just over a year after it started broadcasting. A spokesman for Melita, through which the channel transmitted its programmes, told The Times yesterday that Melita was not receiving content from Family Channel.

The BA said this morning it was closely following the case of Family TV. It said it had not been informed by licence holder Far-Fetched Media Ltd, on the station's actual position or its future so it would be taking steps according to law to suspend the license.

According to law and the licence conditions, the BA has to give the license holder the opportunity to make his representations. If this was not done, the BA had to proceed with the opportune decisions.
