Archbishop in solidarity with Gozo bishop
Archbishop Paul Cremona and vicar general Annetto Depasquale have expressed solidarity with Gozo Bishop Mario Grech who was yesterday the target of insults written on the walls of the Gozo Curia.
Mgr Grech yesterday said the allegations defamed his work as spiritual shepherd and were related to decisions he might have taken to protect the interest of Gozitan churches.
Mgr Grech said that, although he was satisfied that many loved the Church, he regretted occasionally noticing signs of lack of comprehension and collaboration. He called for solidarity.

While I am of the view that the attacks on the bishop are cowardly because of the person or person's failure to identity themselves, I cannot but help think of centuries of defamation of gay men and lesbians by Roman Catholic prelates who think they have a god-given right to continue to make inflammatory comments on the mere pretext that it is (as they see it) the will of God. Perhaps it is not to too late for Roman Catholic prelates to think of the damage they have done and continue to do on gay men and lesbians. When the shoe is on the other foot, they certainly don't like it! And out they come in force to defend each other. A closed club indeed.

Bishop Mario Grech deserves thanks and praise for his work and contribution not only to Gozo but to our country.
Fanaticism brings destruction and does not bear fruits.

Whatever was written about our dear Bishop Mario Grech, unless it was praise, is , surely, uncalled for and unfair, as this gentleman has only shown super respect to all and endeavours to educate and enlighten all of us ! But then, practically, all those who try to show different ways than those people are used to, end up being the target of those who think they know better ! Keep up the great work, dear Mons Grech !

Is it possible to know what these decisions were? It would be nice to hear both sides of the story.

I have admired all along Bishop Mario Grech's courage in speaking out the truth without beating about the bush. No need to remind his Excellency that Jesus Christ promised persecution to whoever makes no compromises. May the good Lord continue to shower him with wisdom and discernment.

Similiar incidents have been going on myriads of times during the Church's history - and no wonder, seeing that its Founder had foretold them in the first place. He also expressly said that those who despise His followers would be despising Him, and those who despise Him would be despising His Father who had sent Him. I am sure Mons. Grech has already forgiven his detractors. May the Good Lord, through the Bishop's prayers, do the same.

May I also voice my condemnation of the vile and low attack on the person of HL Mons Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo. I remember another similar attack on the person of HL Mons Nikol Cauchi when he was Bishop of Gozo. Shame on the supposed Catholics who committed the crime. They are no Catholics at all. They are just fundamentalist talebans not worthy of the name Catholics or even Christians.

I would like to add my voice to the chorus of condemnation regarding the insulting comments received by Bishop Mario Grech. I am sure that the vast majority of the Maltese and Gozitans love and respect Bishop Grech; who will surely not be impressed by the folly of anonymous protesters. I feel sure that this incident will add fuel to the Bishop's energetic performance.

Instead of thanking the Lord for giving the Island a person like Mgr. Grech!

It is with regret that some people, who for some reason and another do not agree with their God's messenger end up insulting him in such a manner.
Bishop Grech is a very respected and religous person and such be respected as such!
