Capturing the police

Father's Day is just around the corner... so why not treat daddy to something different, something cultural instead of the usual?

To commemorate the 195th anniversary of the Malta Police, and coincidentally falling within the days dedicated to daddy-dearest, a specialised photographic exhibition focused on the blue uniformed men and woman in the force, is being set up in the coming days, by photographer Stephen Busuttil.

"Policing is a fascinating career, one which I nearly began 17 years ago. Incorporating policing into my photographic work is a real passion for me so this exhibition realises the merge of these two dreams," said Mr Busuttil. In part celebration of the 195th Malta Police anniversary, the artist's photographic exhibition portrays all areas of one of Europe's oldest forces.

His iconic Father And Son portrait will be on display along with many of his international award-winning images. Mr Busuttil captured various police actions day and night, indoor and outdoor, while only using available light to produce a 30,000 image portfolio, demonstrating his masterful photographic skills.

"Often unseen work and dealing with life's realities are the similarities between policing and press, so I purposely avoid any image manipulation with this subject," he said.

"To win an overall international photography award as a Maltese was an achievement I worked hard for, so I am eager and very proud to display my works to the public."

Mr Busuttil's black and white photographic works will be on display in the Main Hall at St James Cavalier, Valletta as from Saturday and will run until July 19 - a perfect time to celebrate both Father's Day and the Malta Police events in Valletta.

Police Commissioner John Rizzo will inaugurate the exhibition.
