A Musical Academy: Sonatas and other works for Violin and piano from different historical periods is being held at Sagrestia Vault at Valletta Waterfront on June 10 at 8 p.m.
This musical event is being organised jointly by Barocco Cultural Events and the Music Division at the Mediterranean Institute at the University of Malta.
The concert will feature Odile Micallef (violin), Charleen Caruana (violin), Ramona Zammit Formosa (piano) and Ian Peter Bugeja (piano). The programme will present a wide spectrum of sonatas from different periods of time, namely from the baroque period to the modern 20th century.
Violinist Odile Micallef was engaged as a regular part-timer with the National Orchestra, now Malta Philarmonic Orchestra, and she also held the position of leader of the second violin section with the National Youth Orchestra. She attended various master classes and studied with Gottfrieds Schneider and Maltese virtuoso violinist Carmine Lauri, among others.
As part of her three year programme at University, Odile presently studies performance with Dr Yurgen Nagel and Natalia Filipenko. She is also a member of the Mediterranean Institute String Quartet founded by Simon Mercieca at the same University.
She is an active member of the Collegium Musicum under the direction of Dion Buhagiar and has played in numerous chamber/orchestral performances both in Malta and abroad.
