"The health sector needs to be in a strong enough position such that everyone will have access to the best services available, irrelevant of one's financial purchasing power," Claudette Abela Baldacchino, PL EP election candidate, said during a meeting with Action for Breast Cancer Foundation.

Accompanied by PL's leader's wife, Michelle Muscat, Ms Abela Baldacchino explained how her electoral campaign emphasised the need of a ‘social Europe'. She also said that the current economic crisis is burdening the country in different aspects which, can result in an inequality within the health sector. Ms Abela Baldacchino said that where cancer illnesses were concerned, issues haven't been tackled seriously and electoral promises were shelved. She said that it was with great disappointment that one could note that although, six years ago, the EU had encouraged its members to adopt cancer screening programmes, only Malta and Romania didn't follow suit.

Ms Abela Baldacchino stressed that, if elected, she would be joining the group MAC (MEPs against cancer) which comprises of MEPs from different parties and different countries. The group was set up in 2006 with the aim of raising awareness about the fight against cancer and highlighting the need that this becomes one of the topmost priorities across Europe.

Mrs Muscat said that she backs such initiatives and said that the health sector is one of the main priorities of the PL.
