The Royal Navy frigate HMS Cumberland arrived in Malta this morning for a four day visit before continuing to the Gulf of Aden and the Horn of Africa.

She sailed into Grand Harbour with a number of Maltese Sea Cadets on board, as the Royal Navy renewed its links with the local corps.

This is the Cumberland's fourth visit to Malta.

The frigate will not be open to the public.

Meanwhile, the Belgian Navy's BNS Leopold I, will call at Malta between next Friday and Tuesday and will be open to the public on Sunday between 3 and 5 p.m.

The ship will be calling at Malta on its return to Belgium from the Eastern Mediterranean, where it was the command platform of a UN task force supporting the Lebanese Navy in monitoring commercial shipping approaching Lebanese territorial waters.

The Belgian Navy took command of the force on March 1. It was the first time that the Belgian Navy headed a UN led peacekeeping operation.
