Yves Calì's jingoist, petty-nationalist, un-European and provincial attitude is astounding in his letter Nothing But The Truth (May 29). First of all, he should take a crash course in international politics, in particular Italian politics. In Italy elected MPs, unlike in Malta, do not swear allegiance to the Italian Republic. It is only ministers who swear this allegiance. The rationale behind this lies in the notion that MPs should be loyal to their voters and not to the state.
As for pooh-poohing people elected in different parliaments or countries, is Mr Calì suggesting that distinguished politicians such as Lord Ralf Dahrendorf, first elected to the German Bundestag and then serving in the British House of Lords, be dubbed as traitors? Is Mr Calì still living in mediaeval times?
Mr Calì should stick to his hobby or work rather than dabble in international politics.
