Grand Hotel Excelsior has announced a wider role for the Aid The Community committee, headed by HR manager Shirley Grixti, which is supporting several social projects in Malta.
The Aid The Community committee represents an opportunity for the Grand Hotel Excelsior to expand its longstanding commitment to society. It is lending its support to a series of social projects with Sedqa and the Foundation for Social Welfare Services. The Aid The Community committee assumes its social responsibility by promoting social welfare, equal employment opportunities at the Grand Hotel Excelsior and provides access to online education. The committee comprises volunteers from Grand Hotel Excelsior who donate their time and skill to social causes. The committee consists of: Ms Grixti, Sephora Cutajar, HR, Sharon del Bene, food and beverage, Evan Azzopardi, stewarding, Raymond Camilleri, stewarding and Kreaton Cutajar, kitchen. In particular, it supports high-quality projects which combine innovation and sustainability, therefore the Grand Academy, Excelsior's online learning portal, has been opened up for e-learning opportunities for residents in programmes administered by Sedqa and the Foundation for Social Welfare Services.
The Aid The Community committee places a strong emphasis on encouraging young people. Accordingly, several residents from Sedqa projects have been employed at the Excelsior as part of the process of helping to reintegrate skilled people back into the community.
The Aid The Community committee also assists in supporting social events by donating food, drink and staff time to outings and events. A recent outing to Buskett involved eight Excelsior staff supporting 25 people from Sedqa with hospitality, specially prepared menus and soft drinks.
